After two years with no in person talks and events, we had the opportunity to host an invited talk by Prof. Cristina Conati, Professor at the University of British Columbia, at DFKI Saarbrücken. Her research is in Human-Centered AI, at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Cognitive Science, with the goal to create intelligent interactive systems that can capture relevant user properties (states, skills, needs) and personalize the interaction accordingly.

Approximately 40 colleagues listened to her talk “The Eyes Are the Windows to the Mind: Implications for AI-Driven Personalized Interaction”. Half of them participated online because the room capacities were still limited. The talk was followed by a fruitful discussion with the audience. In the afternoon, Michael Barz, groupleader of IML’s Intelligent Multimodal Interaction group, organized a workshop with the goal to exchange knowledge and to identify collaboration opportunities.

Thanks to all participants and helpers!
