On 26 and 27 August 2026, the Growmorrow Festival 2026 took place in Oldenburg. The innovation festival combines high-profile keynotes, inspiring talks and regional success stories. Topics include artificial intelligence, New Work, sustainability, digitalization, energy, health, education and mobility.
The DFKI also contributed research from Oldenburg, presenting the Digital Product Pass (Lisa Dawel, Marine Perception) and biodiversity monitoring (Interactive Machine Learning).
Dr. Thiago Gouvêa, Rida Saghir and Pratik Sitapara from the Interactive Machine Learning group (IML) presented YAPAT, an interactive platform for AI-supported event detection. In biodiversity monitoring, for example, YAPAT can help analyze large amounts of audio recordings, identify relevant events and annotate them. This allows experts to focus on relevant sections of the data instead of having to manually review every second of the recordings. The approach can also be transferred to other types of sensor data and application areas.
Growmorrow once again provided a platform for bringing together research, business and society and for turning innovative technologies into ideas and potential applications.
