Der Kleine Kreis is a business association based in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, that is committed to actively advancing the region through projects, events, funding, foundations, and the annual awarding of the Oldenburg Business Prize. As a sponsor, they feature AAI, the Endowed professorship and Chair of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Oldenburg, on their website.
The chair for artificial intelligence at the University of Oldenburg has been occupied since November 2020: Prof. Dr. Daniel Sonntag has taken over the endowed professorship “Applied Artificial Intelligence” at the Department of Computer Science. The professorship is financed by the KLEINER KREIS, CEWE Stiftung & Co. KGaA, EWE AG, BÜFA GmbH & Co. KG, OLB-Stiftung, Dr. Caroline Neumüller, Alexander Neumüller, and the Stiftung der Metallindustrie im Nord-Westen. In his research at AAI, Professor Daniel Sonntag focuses on interactive machine learning. In this approach, computers receive human feedback on their actions while simultaneously capturing data automatically, for example through eye-tracking or image recognition. He aims to further optimize this process—his goal being to enable machines to learn more smoothly and rapidly from humans.
